THE CLIENT

Having rented for the past six years, Rahul Chaudhary was ready to plunge into something more permanent—namely, a stunning condo in River North’s iconic Trump Tower. “It had to be something I could grow into,” he explains, and with more than 3,100 square feet of space plus worldclass amenities and incredible city views, his new three-bedroom, 3 ½-bathroom unit seemed the perfect spot to settle down.

THE PRIORITY

Chaudhary fancied a clean, masculine aesthetic that felt both modern and warm, and principal designer Debora Weisz of Debora Lyn Interior Design (deboralynid.com) was more than up to the task. “The main goal was to take the space and elevate the interior more to align with our client’s lifestyle and needs,” she says. “We wanted to be able to easily adapt for future changes.” The original French doors leading into the office were too gorgeous to replace, and the living room fireplace remained as is. What needed work? “Pretty much everything else,” Chaudhary admits.

THE DETAILS

Purposeful elements sprinkled throughout the space, like the Metis Atash punk Buddha and figure elephants sourced from Galerie de Bellefeuille in the living and family rooms, add much-needed character and life. Funkier features, like graphic wallpaper and bubble lighting, also catch major attention. “I love pulling items that aren’t traditionally seen everywhere. It lightens the mood,” says Weisz. The wall art in the office, an abstract piece by Spanish artist Antonio Velfin sourced from Boulevard Fine Art, has become a favorite focal piece in its own right. The designer quips, “I swear the focus of his Zoom meetings is more about where he got the art than the work itself.”

THE OUTCOME

The project was completed just in time for quarantine to take effect—perfect timing, according to Chaudhary. Weisz notes with pride, “He had no desire to leave because he was loving his condo!” He is so impressed, in fact, that he has rehired the design team, tasking them with the remodel of his New York City unit next.
