In time to catch the last vestiges of warm weather, Nobu presents The Rooftop, a can’t-miss open-air bar with stunning West Loop views.
Expansive views from The Rooftop at Nobu Hotel Chicago
There are few things better than a rooftop jaunt to catch the sunset. With a thriving rooftop bar scene, Chicago is no stranger to this phenomenon—particularly between River North and the South Loop, where the cityscape and lake views are unmatched. The newest addition, however, might top them all. After all, it doesn’t get much better than Nobu.

The newly opened Nobu Hotel Chicago hits the scene along with its rooftop bar 11 stories above the West Loop. And it has plenty to offer, ranging from light fare and a multitude of exclusively imported sakes to refreshing cocktails and crisp wines. “The space is spectacular,” says General Manager Michael Chin. “Our service is equally exceptional.” The menu here consists of small plates, called Shuko, which feature nori tacos, black cod lettuce cups, and New Zealand lamb and chicken kushiyaki, as well as the classic Nobu selection of the finest nigiri, sashimi and maki. The beverage menu is extensive, with can’t-miss specialty cocktails like the Nobu Sidecar with Iwai Tradition blended Japanese whisky, yuzu and Juan Torres Magdala; and the Chi-Town Cooler with El Dorado 3-year-old rum, Plantation pineapple rum, Campari, demerara sugar, pineapple and yuzu.

The space was designed by Chicago’s Studio K, responsible for city staples such as Bellemore and BLVD, in conjunction with Modif. Architecture. Embodying both a Japanese-inspired tranquility and the urban character of the West Loop, The Rooftop presents a weathered, stylish aesthetic that is exciting yet calming. “With unparalleled views of the West Loop, it is a harmonious and intimate blend of Japanese minimalism and modern design meant to be savored,” says Chin. Indeed, the space combines all the best parts of the Nobu brand with all the benefits of an outdoor dining experience.

The long-awaited Nobu Hotel Chicago, meanwhile, promises to bolster the West Loop’s already burgeoning hotel scene. “I could not be more pleased that Chicago is where we chose to open our first Nobu hotel in the Midwest,” shares co-founder chef Nobu Matsuhisa. “It is an amazing city and home to a wide selection of world-class dining. I am excited and honored to share my food and our brand of Nobu
hospitality with the local community and visitors.” Adds Chin: “This is a place you want to see and be seen. A strong sense of Chicago, a passion for service and our devoted following all stand out.” Between its inviting small plates, impressive bar menu and sweeping views, The Rooftop hits the top of our must-visit list. 155 N.
