When Maude Gurney opened Gurney’s in Montauk, N.Y., in 1926, she could never have imagined the corps d’elite that would eventually cross her threshold. But since they do—in droves—the current owners of Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa and Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina decided to expand their footprint. Last fall, they took over the former Montauk Yacht Club, spent $13 million reimagining it all winter and slung open the doors of Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina around Memorial Day. What they have created are 107 of the most adorable mod-nautical rooms on Lake Montauk.

Smartly, they also put charismatic local chef Jeremy Blutstein in charge of its fine dining concept, Showfish.A true revelation out East, the cuisine reflects Blutstein’s deep friendships with fishermen, farmers and foragers, coming into play nightly. (We pray his razor-thin fluke with cucumbers and horseradish makes the regular menu.) If you can’t snag a coveted reservation, no worries: There’s The Pool Club and Il Forno for more casual fare. Or you can hang by the outdoor swimming pools or in the hexagonal bar sipping cucumber mules. 631.668.3100
