The Peninsula Chicago celebrates its 20th anniversary with a number of festivities not to be missed.
Nosh on culinary classics at The Lobby.
It’s official—The Peninsula Chicago is celebrating 20 years as a premier name in Windy City hospitality. Open since June 1, 2001, and boasting 19 consecutive AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star services awards, among myriad others, it’s a major milestone. Says regional vice president and general manager Maria Zec, “We are honored to have been a part of the Chicago community for the last 20 years and are humbled by the warm embrace we have received from both traveling guests and locals alike since our opening.”

To commemorate the occasion, Zec and her team invite guests to partake in various festivities throughout the hotel. For the rest of this year, certain guest room and suite reservations are an appropriate 20% off when booked 10 days in advance, and include perks such as flexible check-in and checkout times, access to PenChat for 24-hour private e-concierge services, and complimentary access to the 25-meter indoor swimming pool and cutting-edge fitness center. During your discounted stay, check out the limited-edition culinary classics menu at The Lobby. Featuring fan-favorite dishes from the hotel’s storied past, the revived quick-bite lineup includes roasted tomato soup and Szechwan prawns as well as The Peninsula club and Pierrot Gourmet chicken salad, among others. For a more elevated dining experience, Shanghai Terrace’s sumptuous 20th anniversary dumpling, created by chef de cuisine Elmo Han, aims to hit the spot. Featuring a rainbow-patterned wrap, the bespoke recipe (and winner at Chicago’s first Dumpling Fest) includes a total of 20 ingredients, including shrimp and vegetables, in each individual dumpling. Searching for the perfect cocktail to pair? Look no further—The Pen 20, made with jasmine pearl tea and French lavender topped with Champagne, is available through 2021 for deliciously refreshing celebratory toasts. Plus, for each signature cocktail, culinary classic and dumpling ordered through the end of the year, the hotel will donate one meal for a person in need to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, a chapter of Feeding America. Says Zec, “Being a part of the hospitality industry is at the heart of what we do; taking care of people is intrinsic to our DNA.” We’ll cheers to that. 108 E. Superior St., peninsula.com/chicago
