Love electric luxury vehicles but need a car that can go the distance? Mercedes-Benz is ready to drive you anywhere in the world, as long as you're heading toward the future.
The German automotive company just unveiled the Vision EQXX concept car. It’s got the sleek look of a Batman ride with all the power of a racer, but what’s most impressive is the efficient battery, ready to take you 1,000 kilometers or 620 miles on a single charge.
The project started 18 months ago, and in that time, the team created an aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of .17. This outdoes the Mercedes EQS, which currently holds the title for most drag efficient at a value of .20.

“The Vision EQXX is a statement,” says Ola Källenius, Chairmen of the Board of Management at Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, in the company’s official debut video. “It’s the most efficient Mercedes ever, and it's a trailblazer which underlines where our entire company is headed. we will build the world's most desirable electric cars; cars like this one.”
“What a fantastic opportunity to create a vision of the future and to define what the future of luxury will be,” continues Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG. “Our vision is defined by our way of luxury through beauty and the extraordinary. Through design, we set the stage for technology in all three dimensions of exterior, interior and UX to create an extraordinary x-factor.”
The Vision EQXX uses game-engine technology to create a beautiful and unparalleled user experience. The interior display runs in one solid piece from the driver's side to the passenger window and appears to float free in the air. Meanwhile, the visuals are bar-none, conjuring an interactive, three-dimension map and more. There’s even an in-car AI concierge.
Lightweight seats and a free floating center tunnel mirror this design throughout the interior, which is made from sustainable materials including bamboo fiber, amsilk and mylo. “Sensual Purity” was the guiding motif, and that sleekness continues with the car’s exterior design.
Head of Future Technologies Jasmin Eichler tells more about the creative process and the e-drive system, which helped the car achieve 95 percent efficiency, a growth of about 20 percent from the company's current hallmark of 75 percent. Her team worked closely with Adam Allsop, Director of Advanced Technology, and his team to create a powerful machine. The latter’s experience designing Mercedes’ F1 vehicle surely came in handy.
It’s a powerful and beautiful car, to be sure, and for now it’s only the stuff of dreams. Learn more about the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX in the video below, and visit the company online.
