HOME 'HOOD Old Town Triangle. "I love all the history and the homes - we live in a converted storefront that served as a music school for decades. Love the small-town-in-the-middle-of-a-big-city vibe... everyone says hello on the streets, there are block parties, and the neighbors all know each other."
GO-TO SPOT Boka (1729 N. Halstead St.). It's Michelin star-level food with a very low-key vibe. I love that they also have a bar and a more casual menu for those who don't want to spend time and money on a tasting menu. Plus, it's a short walk from my house and across the street from Steppenwolf Theatre."
LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST "Spending some time enjoying the beach in Chicago and hiking in Santa Fe, where I'll be conducting Dvorak's Rusalka. Plus, preparing for Chicago Opera Theater's upcoming production of Shostakovich's fun, crazy, anti-totalitarian, absurdist opera The Nose."
CURRENT OBSESSION "I'm currently in London and really enjoying the baked goods. There is an Italian bakey right next to me with a ridiculously good chocolate ricotta cake and a pistachio tarte to die for."
