The latest from Michigan Avenue's President, Dan Uslan.
It was truly a sweet occasion when Eli’s Cheesecake’s Elana Schulman and Marc and Maureen Schulman joined me in celebrating our March/April cover party with Aidy Bryant at VU Chicago. (Photo by Marcello Rodarte)
I love to travel as much as the next wanderlusting individual, but during summer in Chicago, I’m all about staying local. #SummertimeChi is so fleeting that I hate to spend a day away from the scene.
My solution? A staycation with my wife. Right now, there couldn’t be a cooler roster of options. On the South Side, at the Hiltons at McCormick Place, we are awed by the unrivaled city and lakefront expanses at the hotel’s newly opened rooftop lounge, VU, where we recently toasted March/April cover star Aidy Bryant (check out our “Invited” section for more coverage). And just over on Michigan Avenue, Oxford Hotels and Resorts’ Capital’s recently opened Hotel Essex ambitiously transforms the former Essex Inn into a super-luxe go-to for putting our feet up in the Loop.
With all of its activity, we’ll be logging plenty of quality “we” time on the West Side, too. The newly debuted Hoxton, Chicago continues the white-hot rise of the Fulton Market District, complementing its uber-hip brand of hospitality with rooftop, street-level and basement concepts from Boka Group (Cabra, Cira and Lazy Bird, respectively). And, as if there couldn’t be enough reservations to make, we’ll certainly be visiting the long-awaited Nobu Hotel when it opens on Randolph Street later this season. At this time of year, there’s nothing quite like checking into the best spots while checking out the best of our city.
