Entrepreneur and designer Emily Mackie debuts a stunning custom Wilmette home crafted in collaboration with over 40 notable Chicago designers and vendors.
The formal dining room is appointed with a pair of Cadence chandeliers from Visual Comfort & Co., and chairs, table and back-lit cabinet from Caracole.
On-the-rise developer and designer Emily Mackie paved a new path for herself when she founded her full-service development firm Inspired Luxury Homes in 2020. Now, her dedication to her craft has taken her to new heights with the unveiling of the Art of Living Concept Home. With the help of top-tier designers and resources like Virginia Tile, Oscar Isberian Rugs and more, Mackie and her design firm, Inspired Interiors, worked magic on the 4,900-square-foot North Shore residence.
In the kitchen, Scavolini cabinets complement quartz Cambria Surfaces countertops and Bosch appliances.
While the home exudes luxury and elegance, it’s also practical and functional and is packed with tech that levels up day-to-day life. Voice-activated faucets and showers, and smart appliances that order their own supplies are just a few of the advanced elements.

In the kitchen, sleek Bosch and Thermador appliances pair with custom Scavolini cabinetry and a sprawling island. Above the banquette, a chic chandelier and elegant Skyline Window coverings, which are found throughout the entire first floor, set the tone for an elevated dining experience.
Head upstairs to find the top floor, also known as the ladies lounge, which Mackie designed with the WFH mom in mind. “The idea is that she can enjoy the space all day for morning coffee, afternoon lunches and small meetings or relax on the balcony while taking a conference call,” she notes.

And as with many Mackie projects, it’s essential to have a moment dedicated to relaxation in the home. “I’ve spent a lot of time designing primary baths that operate as a retreat for the parents of the house,” Mackie says. And a retreat is exactly what this botanical-themed primary bathroom offers. On the walls, StoneImpressions’ Lotus Shadow on Thassos from Virginia Tile complements a luxe seated waterfall shower, Moen fixtures and an inviting Victoria + Albert tub.
The primary bathroom features voice-activated plumbing controls by Moen, a custom-colored Victoria Albert bathtub and a two-person rain shower.
Perhaps the most unique space on this property awaits out back where Williams Ski & Patio furniture and a beautifully manicured garden make for a lush oasis of green. Mackie’s finishing touches come in the form of a striking dark-hued garage featuring a pair of sliding barn-style doors on one side and a remote-controlled door on the other, a dazzling Sherwin-Williams epoxy floor with a combination of silver and gold glitter and a disco ball for alfresco parties—all making this an appealing property for those in the market for a new home.”
A Porsche Taycan courtesy of Loeber Motors sits pretty inside the garage, which features barn doors on its south-facing side.
“Building a show home has been a dream of mine for quite some time,” Mackie explains, adding, “I’ve combined my 20-plus years of expertise in interior design with my longtime passion and interest in construction. Constructing this home from the ground up proves that women can build top-of-the-line luxury homes. I hope this project can inspire others and acts as a stepping stone for all, especially women.”
