Iconic performance troupe Cirque du Soleil returns to Chicago with its beloved production Corteo.
Dazzling feats of gymnastics meet over-the-top visual flair in Corteo.
It’s hard to believe that Cirque du Soleil started out in 1984 as a scrappy circus troupe little known outside its home base of Montreal. Today, the performance group is a veritable juggernaut, with 19 shows playing in over 300 cities on six continents (not to mention an annual revenue of $1 billion), all expressing the company’s signature blend of jaw-dropping acrobatics, visual flair and cheeky delivery. Now, Chicago audiences can revel in Cirque du Soleil once more, as the troupe returns to the city after a four-year absence with Corteo, which made its Chicago debut back in 2010 and has played to more than 10 million spectators since its 2005 premiere. A joyful show that brings to life a lively parade imagined by a clown, it’s the perfect Cirque mix—passionate acting, powerful gymnastics, comedy, mystery and more—and the perfect way to reintroduce Chicagoans to the magic of this justifiably world-renowned company of performers.
