In March, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra hosted its 2022 gala “Listen to the Future” at the Marriott Marquis in celebration of the symphony’s 75th season.

Throughout the night, the organization’s musical groups played tunes including Wynston Marsalis’ “Swing Symphony,” and Derrick E. Gardner’s “Chi-Town Suite,” a piece commissioned by the CYSO.

The night’s emcees were WBEZ’s Mary Dixon and writer and podcast host Mark Caro. Event chairs included Dr. Louanne Carabini, Shawn O’Leary and Angela and Dana O’Banion.

Guests enjoyed cocktails and familiarized themselves with the organization’s history before sitting down for dinner and viewing the night’s program and live auction.

Executive director Susan Lape delivered a speech, and a record-breaking $680,000 was raised for CYSO.

Toward the end of the evening, the 2022 Note of Excellence Award was presented to Wysnton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center, accepted by Todd Stoll, the vice president of education for Jazz at Lincoln Center.
