With star designer Derek Lam at the helm, upstart sportswear label Câllas Milano has instantly become essential wearing for this season and beyond.

At its best, sportswear looks effortless—the epitome of easy, wearable, casual and chic—but designing a collection that can actually pull it off takes an incredible amount of skill. Veteran designer Derek Lam has that skill in spades, so when news recently hit that Lam had taken on the creative director role at emerging label Câllas Milano, all eyes in the fashion industry moved to the brand. Chicago fashion guru and boutique owner Ikram Goldman, for one, has nothing but raves for the new collection.
“Derek Lam has a fundamental understanding of American women’s sportswear,” Goldman says, adding, “He just has a really fine eye and has always understood what it takes to have really great shapes and silhouettes for working girls, while still looking really sharp and sexy.”

For Goldman, these are clothes for the stylish girl about town. “It’s a super-casual, fun collection of comfort clothes, from sweaters and pants to beautiful cotton wrap dresses to a fine poplin shirt with flower details.
