Karaoke bars don’t generally attract the see-and-be-seen set, but step through the speak-easy-style entrance of River North newcomer Blind Dragon in the basement of Found Hotel Chicago, and you’ll find that this hip effort from John Terzian and Brian Toll’s The h.wood Group is anything but a magnet for gauche lounge lizards.

At the main bar, against a backdrop of tiki mat-sheathed walls and ornate light fixtures, hip patrons imbibe Asian-inspired tipples from beverage director Justin Campbell’s mixology program—like the Midnight Warlock, a margarita riff punctuated by Japanese togarashi spice and Chinese five-spice—while adventurous crooners test their vocal chops in one of three poshly appointed private karaoke rooms.

To create the space— which mirrors elements of the brand’s L.A. flagship—the nightlife dynamos tapped John Sofio of Built Inc., whose design captures the smoldering sophistication expected from a brand that draws A-listers like Drake, Madonna and Chance the Rapper.“It’s the best of both worlds,” notes Terzian. “We are in the entertainment business as much as the hospitality business, and Blind Dragon embodies that duality.” 613 N.
