Footwear enthusiasts will revel in Armitage Avenue's newest debut: On Thursday, March 7, upstart shoe brand Allbirds officially opened its first Chicago store—the company’s third U.S. outpost, following San Francisco and New York, and fourth in the world, with its London presence—along the same stylish stretch in Lincoln Park boasting Outdoor Voices, Bonobos and other en vogue outfitters.
Local references permeate the 2,000-square-foot space: spurts of light blue honor the city’s flag, while a bricks-and-ivy-styled counter recalls the iconic aesthetics of Wrigley Field. A selection of exclusive lace colors are also decidedly Chicago-centric: “Bears Navy,” “The Bean Silver” and “Theatre Sign Yellow” are a subtle wink to the football team, Cloud Gate and the Chicago Theatre marquee, respectively.
The brand, which touts itself as “the world’s most comfortable shoes” and champions a sustainable design incorporating wool, tree fiber and other materials, is also offering a limited edition, store-exclusive shoe whose blue upper and red accents channel the Cubs—an appropriate wardrobe addition that’s well-timed for Opening Day.
